Junior Football
Programme (Ages 5 -11)

U7 (Ages 6–7)

_MG_4209.jpg

At this stage, children begin to develop more structure in their understanding of football. Our U7 programme builds on early movement and ball mastery, introducing more intentional coaching while maintaining a strong sense of fun and creativity. Sessions focus on core skills like dribbling, passing, positioning, and decision-making through engaging games and challenges.

Players begin to understand the concept of teamwork, learn to listen and follow instructions, and build early game intelligence. Coaches guide players with empathy and enthusiasm, helping them develop confidence and self-awareness both on and off the pitch.

At this stage we recognise the importance of individualised attention, and our U7 programme maintains a healthy ratio of one coach for every four children on average, with a maximum of one coach for every six children.

The players will compete in external matches every two weeks and we use these opportunities to assess the development of key skills, build match experience, meet new people, and learn the rules of the game.

Our progress booklets evolve at this stage to include more structured self-assessments, deeper reflections, and periodic feedback from coaches. This encourages players to think critically, set goals, and take an active role in their own development.

U9 (Ages 8–9)

The U9 programme marks a key transition into deeper skill development and game understanding. Our focus is on refining technique, introducing more structured gameplay, and fostering personal growth through football. Children in this age group begin to show greater awareness of space, and the tactical application of technical skills.

Sessions focus on skill combinations, positional awareness, and movement patterns using drills, small-sided games, and match-based challenges. Communication, focus, and discipline are emphasised as players become more independent and start to take greater ownership of their learning. Leadership skills are introduced and encouraged through group tasks, peer feedback, and role-based challenges.

Players are exposed to external matches every two weeks, giving them regular opportunities to apply their training in competitive environments. These matches help develop confidence under pressure, build resilience, provide exposure to different environments, and strengthen team bonds through shared experiences.

From U9 onwards, players begin using Catapult wearable technology, which collects real-time data such as distance covered, top speed, sprint count, and player load. This allows coaches to tailor training based on each child’s physical needs, helping diagnose challenges, manage workload, reduce injury risk, and support athletic development in a smarter, more individualised way.

We also integrate Veo video analysis, enabling players to watch their matches, reflect on decisions, and learn from real-game footage. Through guided reviews and feedback, players start to understand positioning, movement off the ball, and tactical awareness - building deeper football intelligence and improving decision-making on the pitch.

At every step, we foster a love for the game while guiding players to think, lead, and grow - both as footballers and as people.

At this stage, our progress booklets continue to support personal growth, with added layers of structured self-assessment and guided reflection. We phase out stickers, and players are encouraged to think more deeply about their contributions - recognising how their skills, effort, and attitude influence the team’s development.

U11 (Ages 10–11)

_MG_0604.jpg

The U11 programme advances players into more sophisticated tactical and physical development, balancing high-intensity training with critical thinking. At this stage, players are challenged to think more critically about the game giving greater thought to decision-making, team structure, spatial awareness, and game strategy. Players are expected to have a deeper understanding of personal responsibility on and off the filed.

The sessions will have more emphasis on positional play, transitions, pressing, and attacking/defensive patterns. Coaches will create game-based scenarios and challenges to give athletes a chance to apply learned skills under realistic pressure.

The U11 players will have external matches every two weeks, which allows players to test their application of the skills and tactics taught in training. At this level, players are more involved in developing the team tactics and their understanding of the game will be challenged. The players will also be involved in pre and post match debriefs too, giving them a chance to share their perspective and experience leadership opportunities.

Performance analysis through our catapult technology will allow coaches and players dive a bit deeper into advanced metrics, and assess what factors are limiting progress. Through the data, coaches are able to monitor player perofmance, workload, and can also minimise injury risk.

Players will continue to have access to our Veo technologies and will be more involved in team tactical reviews. The system will leverage available visual insights through heatmaps, positional overlays, and key-moment clips. This will guide them on understanding on concepts like movement patterns, off-ball positioning, and team shape.

The progress booklets provide an opportunity for continued and structured self-assessments and reflections, with added sections to assess how the learned skills affect the team’s performance. This ongoing process fosters accountability, encourages peer mentoring, and connects individual effort to collective success

The U11 program nurtures smart, disciplined players who lead by example and are equipped with the skills, mindset, and data insights to excel both on and off the pitch.

Our Junior Football  Programme

At Aegis, our Junior Football Academy is where young players take their first real steps into structured football training. Designed for children aged 5 to 11 years old, this programme nurtures skill development, game understanding, and personal growth through fun, progressive coaching.

We focus on teaching the fundamentals of the game through game-based sessions where coaches pose problems for players to solve. This approach ensures that players pick up essential technical skills while learning how to apply them in real-game situations.

Players will be exposed to external matches every fortnight, which provide an ideal opportunity to apply what they’ve learned in training, build resilience under match pressure, interact with new teams, and develop sportsmanship by learning to win and lose with grace.

We also focus on developing key life skills like discipline, communication, and reflection. Each stage of the programme is developmentally appropriate and carefully structured to build the right habits both on and off the field.

Every player receives a custom-designed progress booklet, helping them track learning, reinforce positive behaviours, reflect on challenges, and set personal goals.
